I’m Yatish John Kumar, an IB Music Educator and Music Director based in Bangalore, India. With a deep passion for both creative expression and global education, I strive to cultivate musicians who not only perform but also think, question, and connect through music.
As an IB DP and MYP Music Teacher, my teaching philosophy is grounded in the IB mission — to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who use music as a medium to understand and influence the world around them. My classroom celebrates international-mindedness, encouraging students to explore diverse genres such as Latin, Indian Classical, Pop, and Fusion, and to reflect on how music expresses identity and culture.
Technology and innovation are central to my practice. Using tools like Logic Pro, Noteflight, and BandLab, students learn to compose, produce, and perform music that blends creativity with technical skill. Every project emphasizes collaboration, reflection, and real-world relevance — values that align closely with the IB learner profile.
Beyond teaching, I work as a Music Director at Film Industry, composing original works that fuse Indian folk traditions with contemporary sound design. This balance between education and artistry helps me inspire students to become lifelong learners and creators, equipped to make meaningful contributions both in and beyond the arts.
At the core of my philosophy is the belief that music is a universal language that nurtures empathy, curiosity, and connection — values that lie at the heart of the IB mission.
I set my goals to become Music Director in Filim Industry with in 5-6 years : when i was in Grade 12.
I gathered information through my Research to reach my goals.
I Developed my skills accordingly for next 5 years.
I used my Communication and Socialising skills to reach the producers and directors , when i thought : i was ready.
And exactly at Age 22-23 i worked on my first feature movie without any prior working experience just using the skills i developed through the journey.
My next goal is to become famous composer .
Started in State Sylabus where music was all of an extra activity to engage students .
Moved to ICSE and CBSE and music was planned well but teaching methods were like independent training institute styles.
Then took risk to explore my skills practically for two years.2 Years break for my teaching
Lockdown : I happed to join an IB school as part time teacher, where i fell in love with IB ways of teaching. (it was love at first teaching method :-))
Then made it full time and mastered to manage my work as composer and teacher well.
Expericence of teaching Reception (EYPYP) then moving to PYP and teaching MYP feels like ok this the place where i belong ,where music is a subject. this is where i can motivate student in the best way.
So IB happened, i became a lifelong learner , i explored IGCSE ,TESOL, and different Teaching methods.
At present i am exploring DP in IBEC from Windsor universty and will be certified from IBO itslef.
I can go on and on and on...:-)
Officially this is my 8th year as Educator of life skills.
